On Trying Something New

The Girlfriend and I have decided to take a big step. We're going to buy a house. Before we do that, she's moving in. Then we'll figure out how to sell the condo I live in now.

Girlfriend and I are going to write about it here, at When In Home. It's a Tumblr site we created to document the whole thing. Since the bulk of my free time will be focused on finding a new place, writing about it seems only logical.

I like to write. Some people pay me to do it. Other times, I just do it all on my own. For free. I haven't figured out why.

Very rarely, though, does any of it have a purpose. Often, people will tell me that they enjoyed something I wrote, but nobody ever asks me why I wrote it. That would be a hard question to answer.

Now, at least, I have a purpose. That probably means I'll be writing less on this site than I normally would. Random off-topic posts will probably show up here from time to time, but mostly you'll see me on Tumblr. I'm excited to use the site. I think it's more user-friendly than Blogger. More visual too.

Go check it out. Let me know what you think. And if you actually miss what I'm doing here, help me find a new home. Quickly.

NOTE: It's also on Twitter at @wheninhome, but that's mostly going to be a feed from Tumblr.

The Chosen One

People have been misspelling my name for my entire life. Sometimes it's an innocent mistake. Sometimes it's not. Ever wonder what it's like being Jermey Malkovich? I know.

Rarely, though, has my name been misinterpreted. A few years ago, I somehow wandered into this serious conversation:

CO-WORKER: What's your last name?
ME: Markovich
CO-WORKER: Oh. Are you Jewish?
ME: No.
CO-WORKER: You should be.
